Why You Should Film Business Content on Your iPhone

If you opened this blog in utter disbelief that a globally successful company like Stahls' would be encouraging small business owners to film content on their iPhones.. you can collect your jaw off the floor. Darn right, we are.

Why are we encouraging this? Because creating content on a smartphone makes marketing a business extremely accessible. You don't need to apply for a small loan to purchase a camera with. You don't need to spend your evenings learning how to use it either. If you have a smartphone, just use that!

The most important part of content creation is simply getting started.

Other phone brands are available

Even if you own a Samsung, a Google Pixel, or an LG. Whatever the brand of your mobile phone might be, the only thing you actually need to create content for your business on it is the camera function.

You might be thinking.. Well, what about the quality of the videos? Surely a camera produces a higher quality output right?

You're not wrong, cameras and specialised pieces of equipment. However, at this early stage in your content production experience, you don't need the pressure of buying and learning how to use that equipment when most smartphones offer at least 12-megapixel cameras anyway.

Plus, social media content trends are changing. Gone are the days of high-polished promotional videos. User-generated and employee-generated content is rising in popularity due to its authentic and relatable nature.

If you're thinking about getting started creating content for your business, here are 5 reasons why getting started with just your phone camera is great:

1. Authenticity and Realness

Content filmed without a polished finish or impromptu selfies can be more genuine. It often feels like a candid glimpse into someone's real life, free from the polish and perfection of professional production. This authenticity can make viewers feel like they are seeing the "real" person, not just a curated persona.

2. Imperfections are Relatable

People generally find comfort in seeing imperfections because it mirrors their own experiences. This 'real' content often includes imperfections, like stumbling over words, awkward angles, or everyday messes, which can make it more relatable and endearing. It can break down the perceived barrier between the creator and their audience. This can make them seem more approachable and relatable, as they present themselves as ordinary people rather than untouchable figures.

3. Accessibility

Creating this type of content typically requires fewer resources, making it accessible to a broader range of people. This can help viewers relate to the content creator, as they may feel they are on a similar level in terms of resources and capabilities.

4. Spontaneity and Humor

Casual, unedited content often captures spontaneous moments that can be funny or unexpected. These genuine reactions and situations can feel more relatable and entertaining than highly produced, scripted videos.

5. Emphasis on Content Over Production

In budget-style content, the focus is often more on the message or story rather than on perfect visuals or sound. This can make the content feel more focused on sharing an experience or emotion, which can be more relatable and impactful.

But with all that being said, just because Matt's content is 'budget-friendly' doesn't mean it is worth any less than its weight in gold.

His heat printing expertise shines though and the proof of its value is visible in the mountain of comments he gets on every video!

Now, if you want to up your game as an iphone content creator check out the below tips:

Tripod

Phone tripods cost between £15-40 depending on which functionality you choose but the idea is that you extend the tripod and clip your phone in. With this piece of inexpensive equipment you can go completely hands-free with your content creation. It allows you to actually be in the videos/images too which helps add a face to your brand and a relatable/personal aspect to your content.

Microphones

Mobile phone microphones range from £15 right through to over £200. While the price range and the quality differs, you can get semi-professional microphones for between £20-40. Regardless of which price point you choose for microphones, any brand or spec will improve your sound quality which will improve the experience for your viewers.

Gimbal

Finally, we have the mobile phone gimbal. These range from £50-200 depending on spec.

What is a mobile phone gimbal we hear you ask?

It's essentially a hand-held tripod that uses an internal motor to digitally correct the position of the camera against the movements of your hand. This ensures that your hand-held footage is always smooth and devoid of that natural shakiness that every hand brings when filming.
