Taking A Side Hustle To A Full Time Business

This week on the Garment Decorators Podcast , Andy and Molly are thrilled to be joined by Melanie from Drumnagorrach Designs. An independent print business based in Scotland, Melanie started her business to create more of a flexible working environment for her and her family. She has now given up her job and is running Drumnagorrach Designs full time.

Melanie explains that life took a u-turn when she returned to her equine roots after a short family break to realise she wasn't as fit as she used to be. After a Crohn's disease diagnosis and new family obligations, she began to look for more flexible avenues of work. Having previously dabbled in DIY christmas gifts for her daughter, Mel turned to her Cricut vinyl cutter and her heat press. With the help of her vast Facebook network, it wasn't long before she began to print for friends all over the UK.

Andy asks Mel if her remote location in Drumnagorrach, North Scotland has impacted her business in any way. Mel explained that the nearest village is over 6 miles away but doesn't see it as a disadvantage. Her local community have rallied round and supported her business from the very start. She walks down the local high street and doesn't see a single business that she hasn't printed for.

We say it time and time again at Stahls' UK, you don't have to strive for nationwide domination to run a successful print business. Mel targeted her local 6 mile radius and now has roster of recocurring and loyal business customers.
